This Weekend

Hi friends,

Thanks to everyone who entered the 'stache contest this week (see most recent entry below)~ my colleague Robbie Clark drew the winner yesterday, and said winner has been notified. As for the favorite 'stache in town ~ it was pretty much neck and neck between Steve Baron, Paul Holbrook and Les Miller. Many of your nominations were quite impassioned, detailed and entertaining, parts of which may possibly be published in the near future; stay tuned to Blueline and smileypete.com in the upcoming weeks for more mustache musings.

With that behind us, there are some great things happening in town this weekend~

TONIGHT, FRIDAY JUNE 12: Seattle experimental avant-jazz weirdos Dead Science will be playing at Al's Bar tonight, with Lexington's Joe Harbison opening.

Crazy man Bobby Conn (Chicago art-rocker who once declared himself the antichrist) and his wife, violinist and "Grace Slick impersonator" Monica Bou Bou, were on the bill to open, but Al's Bar just posted on Facebook that Bobby's son got strep throat and they had to cancel. Sounds strange, considering he was just fishing around yesterday for a place to stay in Lex (with his wife, two kids and their nanny) but I guess that's Bobby Conn for ya. Anyway, should still be a good time! $5, ALL AGES

SATURDAY, JUNE 13: At 4 p.m., you can catch the first edition of DorkBot Green, with presentations to include Next Generation Carbon Capacitors (by Chris Swartz, University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Energy Research); Pedal Powered Smoothies (by Shane Tedder, The Berry Pedaler) and Worm Composting by Patrick Smith.

For more info on DorkBot, you can check out this article I wrote about Dorkbot (I can't believe I left it off my original picks for the week. There's been a circus of sorts going on in my head lately.) Or dorkbotlex.tumblr.com/ or dorkbot.org/dorkbotlex/

Note: NEW LOCATION FOR DORKBOT ~ the Rehearsal Hall at Downtown Arts Place (141 E. Main St), not C.P.R..

And Saturday evening, if you're not into checking out the Bonnie Prince Billy/Bachelorette show at the Round Barn (recommended), you might wanna head back to Al's to check out Matt Duncan, which, I'm sure, will also be good.

(More info on the BPB/Bachelorette show at The Lexington Project.)

Enjoy yo' weekend....
